HOW CAMP TWO HEARTED BEGAN

It started with
rockhounding.

In August 2023, a group of friends established Camp Two Hearted with a shared interest in rockhounding and exploring Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Trips to the Lake Superior shoreline after dark to look for Yooperlites became one of the group’s favorite ways to spend time at camp.

The property brought those interests together: ten private wooded acres, a main cabin high above the Two Hearted River, and Lake Superior nearby. It became a base for fishing, paddling, trail riding, and time outdoors with friends and family.

We chose to open camp to guests so more people could experience this part of Michigan for themselves. The cabins and facilities continue to improve, while camp remains a rustic, off-grid place on the river.

THE OWNERS & HOSTS

A camp we use.
A place we share.

We’re a group of friends who spend time here ourselves. The river, the woods, the shoreline, and the time with our families are the reasons we keep coming back.

We host as a team and share practical knowledge of the property and the area. Before a stay, we’ll help you plan for the seasonal road, off-grid systems, and the kind of trip you have in mind.

WHAT MATTERS TO US

Pure Michigan.
Wild Michigan.

The character of this place comes from the river and the land around it.

The Two Hearted River

Private frontage and a forested river view are central to camp. We ask guests to care for the banks and leave the river as they found it.

Exploring the shoreline

Agates, Yooperlites, and time on Lake Superior have been part of our story from the beginning.

Room to gather

The main cabin and bunkhouse stay together as one rental, giving each group the whole camp.

A place to look after

We keep food and trash secure, pack out what we bring, and ask each group to leave camp ready for the next.
